STUDIO AND ACCOMMODATION

The studio is at Kulturhuset Bergsjön, a new cultural center located on the outskirts of Gothenburg and easily reachable in 30 minutes by tram. It comprises a library, a café, and ateliers where locals can take part in ceramic workshops or collective readings.

The studio consists of a private simple room equipped with Wi-Fi, a table, a chair, wall space to pin sketches and notes. In the building, there is also a movie room where you can project videos and hold presentations. Keep in mind that Kulturhuset Bergsjön is open to the public, so there are people walking around the building, attending performances, reading books and such. Your room is private and has a door. You are welcome to work there daily 10:00–18:00.

P.S. ‘Bergsjön’ literally translates to ‘The Mountain Lake’ and is named after the lake with the same name in the district. The forests around Kulturhuset Bergsjön are really beautiful.

The accommodation is easily reachable by public transportation from the studio.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need information about the accessibility of the buildings.

SOLO EXHIBITION

During the residency, the artist is expected to work towards an exhibition at Kulturhuset Bergsjön open between March 22–April 7, 2025. The exhibition may include both old and new works, work-in-progress and finished pieces. We encourage the artist to see this moment as an opportunity for experimentation.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The residency is intended to be self-directed, so you are expected to be independent in your practice. However, you will be given a programme with scheduled meetings to discuss the progress of your work with the mentor. Stefano is always available for any need and will help you familiarize with the city and local art scene, create new contacts and give you suggestions for exploring the surrounding nature.

There are no other artists in residence at your time. However, at the co-working space Bildverkstad you will surely meet other artists.

You will need to take the tram daily to reach your studio.

In March the weather in Gothenburg is often miserable, with rain and clouds. When we are lucky, it’s sunny. The temperature is between 4–10°. Please, bring some Italian sun with you.

JURY AND SELECTION PROCESS

The jury consists of:

Stefano Conti, founder of SWIT.
Gloria Pasotti, artist-in-residence 2024.

In October, three artists will be invited for an interview with us. After that, only one will be granted the residency and will receive a binding contract to sign. By the end of October, all the applicants will receive notification of their application results.

We take into consideration the strength and quality of the artistic practice, the relevance of the proposed project to our specific programme and its feasibility within the one-month frame.
