Anna Strand

(Lund, 1979) is a Gothenburg-based artist and educator. In her practice she combines photography, text, and found material. She also holds a position as a senior lecturer in photography at HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg.

In recent years, her works have been presented in both exhibitions and artist books. All the works are based on diverse archives or collections, but often of a private and at first glance inconspicuous kind. These collections serve as a basis for formulating counter-images and illuminating alternative narratives.

By re-constructing or constructing archives and collections, Strand aims to visualize, underscore, and transform perspectives. Much like language, the act of collecting holds a performative potency. The act of collecting, mixing, and compiling is a certain kind of power—perhaps imagined or symbolic, yet functional.
